Overview

Inside The Book

Investing in yourself means dedicating time, resources, and effort to enhance your present life and secure a better future. Rather than expending energy on endeavors that offer no long-term benefits, seek opportunities that broaden your intellectual horizons and improve your quality of life. Concentrating on self-improvement and achieving your objectives can yield positive cascading effects on various aspects of your life - your finances, career, health, and overall well-being. Investing in yourself could be one of the simplest, least expensive, yet most fulfilling ways to utilize your time.

Anyone older than you is entitled to your respect. This system functions effectively, as the majority refrain from using this authority. Whether you admire them or concur with their viewpoints is irrelevant; it would be downright disrespectful to consider oneself superior to the established order. What insights do you possess that your seniors lack? Considering that most of our elders have endured more hardships than us, and their strides have shaped our identities, how could one not show them the due respect?

I've unearthed a profound understanding that nursing extends beyond just physical care. It's about adopting a comprehensive view. Take, for instance, the case of an individual who has endured sexual assault. They are not in their right mind and appear to be a mere shadow of their former selves. Despite this, it's crucial to reassure them that they still have immense mental strength and that there's much in life they can look forward to.

You are dishonest by claiming to be 'good' when you’re not. You may think that "Hey, how's it going?" isn't genuinely a query. It's just a 'courtesy' or 'social convention.' Did the other person genuinely anticipate a different response from you besides saying that you were 'good'? Is uttering 'good' in this context indicating that you don't wish to partake in any further dialogue with them?

In From Pain To Power, You Will Learn

There was a time when I used to voice my thoughts freely and act intuitively, but that changed, and I became reserved and introverted, sidestepping disagreements at any cost. For instance, if I was alone, engrossed in a TV show, and one of my relatives decided to join me, I would instantly surrender the remote control. This came from my realization that regardless of what I was watching, it would only lead to a quarrel. Consequently, I started losing myself in literature, a habit that has stayed with me to date.

I embarked on a journey to the United States in my early twenties. My former spouse had already established himself there before I followed. By then, I had gained a formal education in teaching. The pursuit of wealth and prosperity drives the narrative of many Africans who migrate to America, a narrative my ex-spouse was not exempt from. His motivation to move was rooted in the quest for financial security, needing more substantial belongings.

I strongly advocate for assisting others whenever it's within your capacity. If you find yourself in a situation to aid someone in the same predicament as I was when I first started, you can positively alter someone's life. Helping others is a mission that offers profound insights about people, yourself, and the world you inhabit.

The African diaspora currently encompasses over 30 million people outside their birth nations. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) approximates that these emigrants collectively contribute an impressive $40 billion annually in remittances via bank transfers to their families and communities. This is indeed a matter of immense pride!

In life, we all strive to balance candor and courtesy. This equilibrium varies from person to person and is influenced by numerous factors. Fortunately, many people manage to maintain this balance most of the time. With repeated practice and accumulated experience, this task becomes more effortless and instinctual.

An intriguing part of my learning journey is mastering the art of hair braiding, another skill I didn't pick up from school. There's a multitude of things that I've picked up outside the four walls of a classroom.
